Once you go into the elementary, high school and college levels, you are entering into the world of percentile grades, grade point averages and “ranking” in class. It’s great when your child gets good grades, and we hope that your child’s love for learning will continue. But be careful not to fall into the trap of pressuring your child into doing things solely to get a high grade.

Similarly, if your child gets an average or low grade in subjects, do not treat him with disdain. In both cases, your child will feel and think that his value as a person is tied into his grade. That’s like saying that your value as an adult, as a person, is dependent upon your salary or position in a company.

A GRADE DOES NOT MAKE YOUR CHILD. Your child is NOT a number. He is a complex being who has so many other valuable characteristics that are missed by people who are giving him the grade. Grades only reflect a cumulative score of correct answers, or the value that the teacher is willing to give you for the work you have produced.

Just as salaries simply reflect what a company can afford to give you for the service you are rendering to it, and your position reflects your scope of responsibility in the company. Grades, (or salaries and positions for that matter) do NOT reflect a person’s character, individuality, thoughts, dreams, aspirations and unrealized potential, which are far more important than just getting the right answers to a written test.

So no matter what grade your child gets, treat him the way he deserves to be treated: With a great deal of RESPECT and a whole lot of LOVE. A GRADE DOES NOT MAKE YOUR CHILD.

Be humble, it costs nothing

*Amitabh Bacchan* says…”At the peak of my career, I was once travelling by plane. The passenger next to me was elderly gentleman dressed in a simple shirt and pants.

He appeared to be middle class, and well educated.

Other passengers perhaps recognising who I was, but this gentleman appeared to be unconcerned of my presence… He was reading his paper, looking out of the window, and when tea was served, he sipped it quietly.

Trying to strike a conversation with him I smiled. The man courteously smiled back and said ‘Hello’.

We got talking and I brought up the subject of cinema and movies and asked, ‘Do you watch films?’

The man replied, ‘Oh, very few.

I did see one many years ago.’

I mentioned that I worked in the movie industry.

The man replied..” oh, thatโ€™s nice. What do you do?’

I replied, ‘I am an actor ‘

The man nodded, ‘Oh, that’s wonderful!’ And that was it…

When we landed, I held out my hand and said, ” It was good to travel with you. By the way, my name is Amitabh Bacchan !’

The man shook my hand and smiled, “Thank you… nice to have met you..I am *J. R. D. Tata!”*

I learned on.that day that no matter how big you think you are, there is always someone *bigger than you*.

*Be humble, it costs nothing.*

Why Ambani & Adani are richest ? Why not Tata….
As shared by an Army Officer

“Itโ€™s always not about Businessโ€

I was on Temporary duty to attend Republic Day parade in Delhi.

I had to stay for two nights in Delhi.
So, I stayed in hotel TAJ
I had specifically chosen the hotel because of its location.

In the evening, I called the reception and requested them to get my dress ironed.

After a while, the room service boy came to pick my dress. I handed over him my uniform for ironing. He was shocked to see my uniform and politely asked Sir, you are in Army. I replied yes, he immediately took out his mobile, and took selfie with me and said Sir, I am seeing an Army officer for the first time. I have seen them in movies only. He instantly stamped his feet and saluted. He said Jai Hind Sir and left.

After awhile, somebody knocked the door. I opened the door and to my amaze two beautiful girls were standing with their cell phones in hand. One of them said Sir, we request for one selfie. I didnโ€™t knew how to react. I smiled like a fool. I gave them chocolates from the mini bar, as if they were kids. But you know, what nervousness can do to you. It stops the logical flow of thoughts.

At around 2100 Hrs, I Got a call from the reception, asking me if, I can come down for the dinner as it canโ€™t be served in room, in an extremely polite manner. I went down to have dinner , then I noticed the real beauty of that place, amazingly awesome interior. Landing from the jungles of Kashmir, the ambience was too shinny for me. The moment I entered the main arena, to my surprise the entire staff was standing there.

The staff approached me with manager leading the contingent. The manager said- Welcome to our hotel Sir, Itโ€™s our pleasure to have you in our hotel, handing me the beautiful bouquet. The manager himself had dinner with me.

Next Day.

To my surprise, I was provided with a BMW car by the hotel for my move to โ€œRashtrapati Bhawanโ€. Frankly speaking, we are not used to such type of VIP treatment. We fauzis are more comfortable in our Gypsy.

Day of Check Out.

I went to the reception, handed over the card.

Receptionist: Thank you for your stay Sir. How was your stay?

Me: Stay was very comfortable. My Bill please.

Receptionist: Your stay has been sponsored by our hotel. You protect our Nation. So this is our small token of gratitude for you. We respect your patronage.

*It was not about the saving money which made me feel good, but it was about the respect they have shown towards the โ€œOlive Greenโ€*

I was deeply touched by this gratitude, What a great nation we live in.

After that incident, I wrote to the CEO of TAJ group of hotels. Narrating the incident and appreciating the gesture shown by the Manager of TAJ Delhi.

To my surprise, I got a return mail from the CEO stating that TAJ group of hotels have decided to give discount to Army officers for their stay in TAJ hotels across the country.

Wow, what a way to pay the tribute and respect to the soldiers.

TATA has the best work ethics environment.

In Mahabharat, Karna asks Lord Krishna – “My mother left me the moment I was born. Is it my fault I was born an illegitimate child?

I did not get the education from Dhronacharya because I was considered a non-Kshatriya.

Parshu-Raam taught me but then gave me the curse to forget everything since I was not a Kshatriya.

A cow was accidentally hit by my arrow & its owner cursed me for no fault of mine.

I was disgraced in Draupadi’s swayamvar.

Even Kunti finally told me the truth only to save her other sons.

Whatever I received was through Duryodhana’s charity.

So how am I wrong in taking his side?”

Lord Krishna replies, “Karna, I was born in a jail.

Death was waiting for me even before my birth.

The night I was born I was separated from my birth parents.

From childhood, you grew up hearing the noise of swords, chariots, horses, bow, and arrows. I got only cow herd’s shed, dung, and multiple attempts on my life even before I could walk!

No army, no education. I could hear people saying I am the reason for all their problems.

When all of you were being appreciated for your valour by your teachers I had not even received any education. I joined gurukula of Rishi Sandipani only at the age of 16!

You are married to a girl of your choice. I didn’t get the girl I loved & rather ended up marrying those who wanted me or the ones I rescued from demons.

I had to move my whole community from the banks of Yamuna to far off Sea shore to save them from Jarasandh. I was called a coward for running away!!

If Duryodhana wins the war you will get a lot of credit. What do I get if Dharmaraja wins the war? Only the blame for the war and all related problems….

Remember one thing, Karna. Everybody has challenges in life.

Duryodhana also has a lot of unfairness in life and so has Yudhhishthir.

But what is Right (Dharma) is known to your mind (conscience). No matter how much unfairness we got, how many times we were disgraced, how many times we were denied what was due to us, what is important is how you REACTED at that time.

Stop whining Karna. Life’s unfairness does not give you license to walk the wrong path…

Always remember, Life may be tough at a point, but DESTINY is not created by the SHOES we wear but by the STEPS we take…ย ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ
